Week 1 Photo

My name is Michael, and this is my final year here at Albertus. I am currently down to my final three classes and have graduation in my sights. I work full time currently at BMW and Mercedes-Benz of North Haven as Business Development Manager. I was previously in my role as a Business Development Representative, but accepted a retention offer this past month when I made it  known I had an offer from another location and had planned to take it. Im now looking to start this new journey professionally while I build my department up.

My wife Megan and I are newly married, having the ceremony at the end of last year. We had a relatively smaller wedding in Florida on the beach, and it was everything we hoped it would be. She is also in school at the moment, going to Post University and studying psychology. She has been there for me on this journey and supported me in many different ways.

I am excited for this class because I've always had interest in media. My interest is more on the editing side, and look forward to learning Photoshop more. I will be using my iPhone 12 Pro Max for my photos. I have general knowledge on how to take photos, but not at a proficient level. I look forward to adding some skills and being able to utilize the hardware I have to its potential.

Welcome!

Welcome to Digital Photography I and II.  Take a moment to watch the how to post video linked above.  It is important that you respond to the email blogger sent you in order to join the blog.  Only members can post and comment here. Class runs from June 1st - July 6th, 2022. Class is on a Wednesday to Wednesday format this mod... think of your week segments that way.

Once you get going, you will see that posting to the blog is easy and intuitive... and so much nicer looking than the eLearning shell.  Albertus is a Google Apps for Education campus, and Blogger is one of the apps available to you.

For the first week, I want you to get up and running and post a bio with a photo here.  Please state what camera you will be using.  If a phone, state the model. Download and install Photoshop using your Albertus credentials.  (link above). You should have either a Windows pc or laptop or a Mac desktop or laptop.  A chrome book can't run Photoshop.  If that's what you have, then you'll need to work on your phone to edit your phone cam pictures and upload to the blog from your phone... Another possibility is that you could receive a remote login to an Albertus computer with Photoshop and run it from your Chromebook. You can also check out a laptop with Photoshop installed from the school library.

Read through the assignments in the syllabus.  Use Google images to get ideas for your work.  Photo I: The first assignment, Introduction to Composition asks you to think about finding geometry in your compositions using the built environment (not nature)  Here is a good short tutorial on the subject.

Photo II: Commit to a project for the Mod... will it be a technical one such as working with time exposures, close macro, night photography, painting with light, etc or will it be more conceptual.... Doorways and passage ways as a metaphor  for.... Graffitti and decaying urban landscape as a comment on current affairs... etc. Read through the syllabus for some ideas... propose other ideas....

This is a workshop class.  To succeed, you need to post 6-10 of your best pieces, edited in Photoshop for light and focal point each week.  To get 6-10 good images, plan on shooting 5 to 10 times that number to be able to pick out the strongest ones.  Post all of the images to your Drive and create sub folders for your edits.

I take attendance on Wednesday morning for the previous week's work.  I want you to have fun with this class.  Looking forward to working with you!

Here I am this spring before the Corona Virus sent  us home, teaching Ceramics to the undergraduate day students.
