Week 2 - Composition around the yard

  1. One of the keys to this assignment is to completely fill the frame with shape, line and structure and eliminating background detail that doesn't contribute to the composition. As an example, in the bottom one, the line and structure of the wood is a great realization of what we are trying to accomplish, but the peek to the background does not. A simple fix here is to crop that area out.... better yet is to move in closer and fill the frame with the composition.... (The meme is that real photographers don't crop)...
The four images above it then are weakened by all of the space around the objects that don't add to the geometry. The flagstone shot works well and is complete... So to the extent that all elements in the frame contribute to the geometry, that becomes the strongest example for the assignment. The stairs work and the shot under the deck could use the bottom darkened a bit to bring the eye back to the receding lines. Just a few cropping tweaks would help the majority.... All in all, okay.
